Closet Clean Out Tips
Taking on your closet alone can feel overwhelming but these DIY tips will help you Clear the Clutter in no time. If you get stuck, we’re just a phone call away!
STEP 1 Catch up on your laundry, we’re going to tackle the entire wardrobe.
STEP 2 Start with shoes. Match them up, try them on if needed and decide if they’re a keep, toss, sell or donate. Do you have enough room? If not you may need to edit further, find a new location or add simple storage such as a shoe basket.
Step 3 Go shopping in your closet. Is this something you would buy today? Does it fit, need repair, or seen better days? Use your bed as a work station to create piles of pants, shirts, dresses, jackets etc.
Step 4 Downsize is the name of the game. Only keep that which you love and wear. Bag up donations, toss any trash you come across and save misc items such as papers and photos for another day, stay focused on the task at hand.
Step 5 Now that your closet is empty, clean it! Matching hangers help calm a space down so narrow it down to your favorites or treat yourself with new ones, my favorites are velour because they take up less room and keep your clothes in place.
Step 6 As you return items to the closet, continue to edit what you kept and if you started a “maybe” pile, keep in mind that you probably don’t love it or it would have landed in your yes pile.
Step 7 Items you use daily should be up front and easy to reach and seasonal items like winter coats should be stored or moved to the back of the closet during summer months.
Step 8 Enjoy your space! With all your favorite clothes, clean and accessible, you’ve created a personal boutique designed just for you.
Happy Downsizing!
